Good info. I was waiting to see the third case when the strike price is crossed and the buyer exercises the buy option. What happens to the collateral? Is there any action to be taken by seller or does the exchange automatically sells the share from our account

Mistake: having too many positions expiring on the same date. Remedy: Spread out expiration dates. Mistake: After a run of successful spreads, increasing the width of the spread (from $5 to $10 width) , then having 3 losses in a row. Remedy: Gone back to $5 wide spreads only. Mistake: Had a winning Put Spread, didn't take profit, and the market turned, and made maximum loss. Remedy: I must take profits earlier, pigs get slaughtered.

@5:29 Buying the 50C allows you to buy 100 shares of the underlying at $50/share. Downside is that (1) you must pay the premium for the 50C, (2) if prices fall below the $50-strike, the 50C is worthless. @5:32 Selling the 55C allows you to (4) collect a premium but (5) obligates you to sell 100 of the underlying shares at the $55-strike. The net effect is that: Scenario 1: (6) if the underlying share price falls below $50, (2) occurs and you don't get to buy any shares and you lose the premium paid for the 50C. This loss is reduced by the amount you'd earn from (4), selling the 55C. If you sold the 55C for more than you spent purchasing the 50C, you would have made a profit, otherwise, the difference between premiums of the 50C (which you bought) and the 55C (which you sold) is your realized loss. Since the price had fallen below $50, the holder of the $55C won't exercise this option since it's better to buy at market price for less than $50; thus the obligation (5) is voided (the 55C is worthless to the holder). Scenario 2: (7) if the underlying share price stay between $50 and $55-strike on or before the time of the 50C and 55C expiration, you can (8) exercise the 50C to buy 100 shares of the underlying at $50/share, and (9) then sell it at market price to realize a profit. The 55C is useless to you, since it's not in the 55C holder's interest to exercise. The 55C is a liability (if you sold, (9)), because you're still under obligation to deliver 100 shares, at least until the 55C expires. If you didn't sell, the 55C is not a liability since you would have 100 shares to cover the 55C if it gets exercised i.e., you're in a covered-call position. After the 55C has expired, two things can happen: (10) if the market price of the underlying is above $50, you can sell 100 shares for profit and close out your position. You will also have realized profit from (4). (11) But if the market price of the underlying falls below $50 before you had a chance to close the position, (10), you are entered in an unfavorable long position. Scenario 3: (12) if the underlying share price rise above $55 on or before the 55C expiration, you can (8) exercise the 50C to buy 100 shares and the (13) 55C holder will likely exercise the 55C to buy those 100 shares from you. You will profit from (4), and realize the profit from the sale of 100 shares at the difference in option prices 55C-50C = $5/share.

I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for....

thanks for the video. i have a question: 1- if i buy 100 shares of XYZ at a price of 50$ and right away sell a covered call with a strike price of 55$, when the share price reaches to 55$ at the expiration what is my loss? i lose my shares but still keep the premium received at the beginning ? thats the total loss, shares? 2- share prices goes to 60$ at the expiration, what is my loss? shares + potential roi ? in this case 1000$ or 1000$ - premium ? tia

I remember when I just got into crypto back in 2019 but later in 2020 I ended up selling it because I was dumb and I didn't understand it. I studied and learned and now I know how it works. Got back into crypto early in 2023 with 10k and I'm up with 128k in a short period of time .This comment serves as motivation for all those who have invested and continue to invest in cryptocurrencies with so many losses, do not give up, cryptocurrencies can change your life. Do your best to connect with the right people and you will surely see changes.

I'm just starting my foray into options and after doing some research on RobinHood I see so much hate for it everywhere. I don't care about the GameStop scandal stuff but the payment for order flow, closing out options early, higher option prices than other brokerages, etc does worry me a little. What are your reasons/motivations for sticking with it? I love the UI, and it makes everything so simple (which can be good or bad). Using other brokerages that have UIs built in the stone age kill my motivation when I know something like RH exists and I'm not using it.

One day, I opened a put credit spread for google. I set a stop loss at $80, just in case the price would go against me. A surprise earnings announcement happened just before closing, and the price sky rocketed. I should have had max profit, but ended up with an $80.00 loss instead. When I called to figure out why, they told me the spread got so wide that it triggered my stop loss, even though the price never got even close to it. So, no more stop losses for me... Another mistake: I held on to a losing trade too long. 4 days before expiration, I tried to close the trade, and it wouldn't close. The next morning, I got assigned 100 shares and my account was down $18,000 that I didn't have. After freaking out and calling Scwab, they helped me sell my long option and get rid of the shares for a final loss of only $156.00. As you can tell, options trading can be terrifying, lol...

When selling puts on Robinhood, does the contract always have to expire specifically BELOW my strike price? Or just not travel past it? For instance - if the interesting stock is 5$, but I sell a put at 10$ strike price, am I basically saying "I'll buy this stock UNLESS it goes over $10/stock"? Or am I saying "I'll ONLY buy if it goes over $10"? Thanks for the info, gang!
